Games
Come in. Pull up a chair.
Them days you sent a youngster up the road to say there was a game on. Now you send the code, and if a chair's still empty when you deal, one of the regulars takes it.

Got a place worth the drive?
Down the road
Well, Sunday after Mass we'd walk it. Start at the gate and go down, and every house along here I'll tell you who's in it.
Brigus
brigus · The Baccalieu Trail
Stone-walled Conception Bay town of sea captains — with an 80-foot tunnel a Bartlett blasted for a deeper berth.
Brigus on Conception Bay is a small heritage town of stone walls, captains' houses and rock-walled rivers from its sealing and Labrador fishery days. Its best-known curiosity is the Brigus Tunnel: an 80-foot, man-sized passage through thick rock, built in 1860 over four months with hand drills and gunpowder for a Bartlett sea captain who needed the deeper docking water beyond it, and used until 1910 (Tourism NL). The town is known for its blueberries — ginger cake, pie or crumble with lunch — and Captain Bob Bartlett's Hawthorne Cottage stands at 1 South Street as a National Historic Site.
How to get there
Brigus on Conception Bay: follow 'the Walk' road behind St. George's church to the waterfront and the famous tunnel; the rock-walled rivers and Wilcox Gardens are on the stroll through town.

The kitchen
Well, Sunday the pot was on before Mass and the smell of it met you at the gate. Here's what was in it, and how it's done.
The hall
Them days the hall had a dance Saturday and the kitchen had music the rest of the week. It's still playing. Come in and listen.
The yarns
He said, you know the one about the light on the water. I said, I do. That's a story, mind, and I'll tell you which parts.
Not the house
No, I said, that's not the house. It was down just below there. Go back up the road.
