Cape Race and the Titanic (1912)
cape-race · The Irish Loop
The wireless station that took the Titanic's distress calls sits on this remote Avalon headland.
Marconi returned to Newfoundland in 1904 to install a wireless station at Cape Race, on the southeastern tip of the Avalon. In April 1912 that station received the distress signals of the sinking Titanic, relaying the disaster's first news to the world from this isolated headland.
How to get there
Cape Race, the southeastern tip of the Avalon, reached on the Irish Loop's southern edge via Route 10 through Portugal Cove South.
