Trivia

The Board

Them days you sent a youngster up the road to say there was a game on. Now you send the code, and if a chair's still empty when you deal, one of the regulars takes it.

Down the road

Well, Sunday after Mass we'd walk it. Start at the gate and go down, and every house along here I'll tell you who's in it.

Cupids, 1610: Canada's oldest English settlement

cupids · The Baccalieu Trail

Cupids is the oldest English settlement in Canada.

In 1610, Bristol merchant John Guy and 38 settlers established a plantation at Cuper's Cove (Cupids) under the Society of Merchant Venturers - the first permanent English settlement in what is now Canada and one of the oldest in North America. Archaeological work at Cupids Cove Plantation has uncovered remains of the original colony, and the Cupids Legacy Centre, built for the 400th anniversary, interprets the site.
